Grand Junction City Government is recognized for its civic excellence. City Hall is located at 250 North 5th Street, Grand Junction, CO  81501-2668.

The City Council holds their regular meetings the first and third Wednesdays of the month and the Monday preceding the first and third Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the auditorium in City Hall. In addition, a regular 11:30 a.m. lunch workshop is held on the Monday of Council week, most often in the Administration Conference Room.

Teresa Coons, Mayor

Teresa Coons is a 4th generation Coloradoan. She received her undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. in immunology from the University of New Mexico. She is currently the Executive Director for the Western Colorado Math & Science Center, where she works with volunteers and staff to “create enthusiasm and excitement for math and science”.  She is also an Adjunct member of the Mesa State College faculty, and of the Colorado School of Public Health and an Associate Member ofthe University of Colorado Cancer Center. 

Teresa and her husband Frank (a local veterinarian) have two adult daughters, and have lived in Grand Junction since 2000.  Teresa currently serves as an appointed member of the Mesa County Board of Health, the Grand Junction Housing Authority, the Mesa County Methamphetamine Task Force Executive Committee and Club 20’s Healthcare subcommittee. In May 2007, she was appointed by Governor Ritter to the state’s Air Quality Control Commission. In the fall of 2008, she was also appointed to the Dean’s Council for the College of Natural Sciences at Colorado State University and to the Nursing Advisory Council at Mesa State College.

 

Bonnie Beckstein, Mayor Pro Tem

Bonnie J. Beckstein moved to the Grand Valley in 1964, graduated from Fruita Monument High School and attended Mesa State College. She is currently employed by Cucchetti, Baldwin & Company, LLC as a public accountant and has been employed there for 29 years. 

Bonnie has lived in Grand Junction with her husband (Joe) and they have two adult daughters, four grandsons and one granddaughter. She has served as a PTO President, Parent Advisory Board member at various schools and as a Girl Scout and Brownie Troop Leader.  She has also served on the Mesa County Republican Board and the Mesa County Republican Women's Board.

 

Tom Kenyon

Tom is President of Elk Canyon Investment LLC, and a Realtor with Bray and Company. Tom serves as a director on the Grand Junction Area Realtor's Association and serves the third congressional district as the National Association of Realtors, Federal Political coordinator. Tom also served as chair of the Colorado State Realtor's Legislative Policy committee.

Tom managed the Colorado State Park system for 31 years. He is currently on the Board for the Center for Independence, the Advisory Council for McInnis Canyons, and the Riverfront Commission. He is also vice-president of the Colorado Mule Deer Association and a memberof the Habitat Stamp Committee.


 

Sam Susuras

Sam is a Colorado native.  He is married to Lois and they have two daughters each and one grandson.

Most of Sam's professional career was in commercial banking, where he served as president, CEO and Chairman of the Board for several banks. His banking career involved him in management, business development, financial and operations management and staff development.

Sam completed his undergraduate work at Oklahoma Wesleyan University where he was named Alumni of the Year in 2008.  His graduate work was at the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado.

Sam was appointed to The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade by the Governor of Colorado and served as the Business Development Representative for 18 western Colorado counties.

Sam recently served for several years on the Mesa County Planning Commission and resigned when he was appointed to the Grand Junction City Council. He also has served on the School District 51 Long-Range Planning Committee and the Budget Committee.

While in banking, Sam served on various Parks and Recreation Boards, Planning Commissions, Economic Development Boards and other community organizations.

Sam considers it a privilege to serve on the Grand Junction City Council.


Gregg Palmer

Gregg Palmer is a local business owner, with partnership interests in Colorado, California, and Oregon. Elected in 2003, and re-elected in 2007, he has a lengthy history of community service. He has served on the Traffic Safety Council, and both the Downtown Association, and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA). He is past President of the Grand Junction Lions Club and the Museum of Western Colorado. He serves on the Airport Authority Board, and has recently been re-appointed by the County to serve on the EMS Council. He also serves as a member of the Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP), among many other duties. He and his wife Dana have 3 sons, and 5 grandchildren living in Grand Junction. He has lived here since 1980, having moved here from Durango.

 

 

Bruce Hill

Bruce Hill is owner of Superior Alarm, Inc. A Grand Junction native, he graduated from Grand Junction High School and attended Mesa State College. He has been active in many local organizations including Kiwanis, United Way, the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Authority, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation Board, JUCO, and CrimeStoppers, among others.

Bruce chairs the Training Needs Committee for the Colorado Municipal League (CML) and sits on the Conference Planning Committee. He also is very active in the National League of Cities (NLC), serving as Chair of the Communityand Economic Development Committee (CED) and is a member of the Leadership Training Institute (LTI) board of directors as well.

 

Bill Pitts

Bill Pitts moved to GrandJunction in 1967 with his wife and 3 small daughters to buy a business which he knew nothing about, just because he liked Grand Junction. From this original acquisition he started numerous other businesses which he guided to a successful posture gaining the attention of other investors to whom he sold the businesses. Today most of these businesses are still operating successfully, an accomplishment of which he is quite proud.

After selling himself out of business, he entered the Real Estate industry and today he is Broker/Owner of The Right Realty Co. Here he found himself again in the creative mode, moving from the "standard" real estate profession to that of creative, out of the box, problem solving, national real estate circumstances and is currently Education Chairman, and Vice President of the National Council of Real Estate Exchangers.

Bill is a private pilot. Using his airplane, and his wife as navigator, he helps transport underprivileged persons in need of medical attention, and blood for
Angel Flight West.
