  • General Overview of Operations

     

    Operations is responsible for emergency medical services, fire suppression, mitigation of disasters, and rescue activities. Specialized teams include Hazardous Materials Team, Technical Rescue Team (Confined Space Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, Technical Rope Rescue, and Trench Rescue) and the joint Fire/Police Hazardous Device (bomb) Team.

    Responding to emergencies consumes a large portion of time. After the emergency response aspect, training consumes the next time commitment. Operations personnel also inspect commercial and multi-residential facilities for fire and life safety code violations and familiarization. In addition members provide a wide range of services to the community, including tours of fire stations and apparatus, and fire and life safety presentations. 

    Staffing:  

    Operations personnel have three shifts (Black, Red, and Green) that work an alternating 24-hour schedule. Each shift is comprised of the following staffing.

     

    * 1 Shift Commander (Battalion Chief)
    * 5 Captains
    * 5 Engineers
    * 10 Firefigher/Paramedics

    * 12 Firefighters/EMT
    * 2 Civilian EMS (Emergency Medical Service) Personnel
