What is an RSS Feed?
RSS (most commonly expanded as Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed
formats used to publish frequently updated web-based content. RSS is a format
for content distribution. If you subscribe to an RSS feed, you could then view
the feed for updated content through an RSS Reader in a web browser.
How do I start using RSS Feeds?
An RSS reader is required to use a web site’s RSS feature. Select an RSS reader. Some readers are web-based, such as
Google
Reader,
My Yahoo!
and
Bloglines. Web-based readers require no software installation and are accessible from any computer that has Internet access. Other readers are downloadable applications, such as
FeedReader or FeedDemon.
Once you’ve selected an RSS reader, follow the instructions to download and install, and then open the reader.
Determine what type of content you want the RSS reader to monitor. Many web sites provide RSS, which often can be found on those sites as a link. The RSS icon is often used to display the service’s availability to users. Not all RSS Readers behave exactly the same. Specifically, at times the RSS feed is automatically added to the RSS reader. For other web sites, you may have to click the RSS link and copy it into your RSS reader.
How to Best View RSS Feeds in Different Browsers
RSS feeds are best displayed in Internet Explorer since they are displayed in date order.
If you use Chrome to view RSS Feeds, downloading this
is required.
Firefox or Safari do not consistently display RSS Feeds in date order. It depends on the version of those browsers and which Reader is used.
